Are You Trusting in Hope for a Better Life? Hardships press upon everyone, even the strongest among us. To remain solid against torrential storms, we must exercise hope as a daily charge. Remember, we are never alone. As long as the Son rises in the East, there is hope.
The Lazarus Flower
While enjoying my garden recently, I found an echinacea stem broken off at its root, lying withered on the ground. Saddened that this small bud will never bloom to its full potential, I picked it up. Heading toward the compost bin, I paused. Instead of placing this seemingly dead flower within the dark, plastic tomb, I brought it inside. Hope swelled within me as I whispered a prayer, knowing God could breathe life into anything.
Resurrection
Breathe Your breath of life into us, for You alone are the only source of true life.
The next morning, I stared with amazement at the echinacea stalk. That once limp stem now stood proud and full of life.

Day after day, I watched roots grow from the stem while the small bud matured. Soon petals formed until finely, one miraculous morning, a full-fledged blossom greeted us.
Rewards of Hope
Rewards of hope come in unlimited ways. They hover around us as a gift from our Savior, reviving dreams that life and health have withered away. However, we are called to be active participants, which means hope won’t just seep into us like osmosis. Consequently, to receive this blessed gift, we must grasp it. After decades of exercising hope, my diligence rewarded me immensely in 2018. I had spent the past decade relying on a wheelchair yet regained my ability to walk. Even my Genetics Doctor was flabbergasted. He stated how common it is for people, like me, with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome to become wheelchair-bound. But I was the first case he had ever known who worked their way out. However, I did not do this alone. God allowed the Son to rise in the East.
Keep Hope Strong
Hope is not a one-and-done type of thing. To keep your hope strong, one must practice it as a daily disciplined commitment. If not, hope can lead to crashes. With this in mind, I’ll have a good day with heightened strength and lessened pain. This gift tempts me to lean on false hope as I dip my toe into that yearned-for lifestyle. As a result, I have learned that if I overdo things, it will cost me immensely.
To avoid the inflated price, I try to pace myself. Yet, even with this limitation in play, I inevitably crash the next day. And when I do, I crash hard. This pattern repeats itself continuously, attempting to erode my hope. Cautious not to overdo things, I try to break out of this retched cycle. Even so, I have yet to find my steady pace. The truth may be that I have not found peace in the existence my Maker created for me.
We must remain alert for such false hope. It comes when rooted in futile areas and chases after us all. This imposter finds me whenever I turn toward outlandish aspirations. At those moments, brutal reality slaps me in the face. It reminds me that my body won’t physically allow me to live the life I dream of.
True Hope Roots You with Your Maker
I need to channel my go-to attitude on a different course in line with my Savior’s wanting. I suppose this is my new direction for hope—to be at peace with who God created me to be and not attempt to be someone different. For true hope is rooted in your Maker. Then only are we able to bloom to our fullest potential.
