Even a Jumbled Mess can Be Beautiful

I looked at the overgrowth of weeds before me. Is it too late to tame this Jumbled mess? An inner whisper reminded me that even a jumbled mess can be beautiful.

Growing Season

I absolutely love working in the garden. Where we live, our compacted growing season consists of only approximately eight weeks. Once the soil warms, plants—both wanted and unwanted—quickly flourish. Because of this, it is crucial to begin gardening on day one of our short summer months. Consequently, missing a week of that limited timeframe produces great challenges. It requires playing the practically unwinnable game of catch-up.

Circumstances beyond our control caused us to start gardening this year later than usual. As a result, we missed our critical window to maintain overgrowth. It now seems nearly impossible to catch up.

Three days in a row, I labored at pulling unwanted weeds and trimming ragged branches off bushes. I stepped back and surveyed the mess as the realization I had been resisting hit me face-on. I did not have the strength or time to make up for the lost opportunity presented at the start of the season.

All Growth is Beautiful

I breathed out frustration and focused on the mess before me. Flower blooms and young leaves peeked out among the conglomerate of unwanted brambles. Even though I gazed at a jumbled mess, what I looked at was still growth, so it was beautiful.

Our lives can easily reflect this year’s gardening. Circumstances frequently get in the way and prevent us from cleaning out the weeds of our day-to-day existence. Yet, we are never too old to grow. It may be too late to play catch-up this year, but next year always provides a fresh start.

Untwist the Brier Patch

I love writing fiction. It provides me the perfect opportunity to take a thorny brier patch from my life and untwist it. I can then rewrite the ending into something beautiful. The magic of fiction is you can create outcomes that do not exist in this everyday world. I formulated my Character, Aldous, from The Hidden Diamond, out of a conglomerate of people from my past. Sadly, each human Aldous represents gave up and allowed the weeds of life to strangle them. Even sadder, because they abandoned growth, they became the brambles. They inflicted devastating harm on others, including me.

Allowing Personal Development

One of those people I still, with cautiously implemented boundaries, speak with ever-so-often. She has this annoying habit of weaseling into each conversation the phrase, “I’m so old.” She always uses immense intensity to punctuate each word, which increases my irritation. For as long as I have known her, this expression has been her go-to excuse to stonewall growth. Without the allowance of personal development, we cannot reach the life of flourishment our Maker has blessed us with.

Often life turns us down pathways we would rather avoid. Yet, no matter how undesirous that obstacle course may appear, it could be a disguised blessing from our Savior. In every circumstance, God provides us with the opportunity for a growth lesson. We can either focus attention on the direction our Lord is pointing at or fixate on the brambles. The choice is ours. https://www.crystalmmhuntley.com/have-you-ever-wondered-how-to-find-a-better-angle/(opens in a new tab) . All creation shares the universal purpose of growth. Avoidance is futile.
